Prospecting Sequence

A prospecting sequence is a predefined series of outreach steps — emails, calls, LinkedIn touches, reminders — executed on a schedule for each new prospect.

It differs from a general marketing drip campaign by targeting individual named prospects with rep-owned messaging, often mixing automated steps with manual tasks the rep must complete.

Sequences standardize follow-up so no prospect silently drops after one unanswered email.

A practical example

Example: a rep enrolls a prospect in a 12-day sequence: a personalized day-one email, a manual call task on day three, a LinkedIn connection request on day five, and two further emails.

If the prospect replies at any point, the sequence exits automatically.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether replies and positive signals automatically stop the sequence, preventing awkward automated follow-ups.
  • Confirm manual steps (calls, LinkedIn tasks) are supported and assigned clearly, not just automated email chains.
  • Test how enrollment works from your CRM and whether a contact can be in only one sequence at a time.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Sequences scale outreach but can make messaging feel templated; over-automated cadences may harm reply rates and sender reputation, so step count and tone need active tuning.
