Round Robin Assignment

Round Robin Assignment is a lead distribution method that rotates incoming leads or accounts across a defined rep pool in sequence, so each person receives roughly the same volume over time.

It is a practical label for even distribution logic, not a universal standard, and implementations vary in how they handle absences, weights and reassignment.

A practical example

Example: a five-rep SDR team receives 50 inbound demo requests in a week; a round robin rule assigns each request to the next rep in rotation, so each SDR handles about ten conversations.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm whether the tool supports weighted rotation, so senior or higher-coverage reps can receive proportionally more leads.
  • Test how the rule handles out-of-office reps, capacity caps and skipped turns before go-live.
  • Verify that reassignment after the fact is logged, so attribution and SLA reporting stay accurate.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Even distribution is not the same as optimal distribution; round robin ignores territory, expertise and account fit unless you add routing rules on top.
