Sales Activity Tracking

Sales Activity Tracking records the individual actions reps take during selling — calls, emails, meetings, demos, follow-ups — and links them to contacts, deals and time periods.

Its purpose is to connect effort to pipeline movement, so managers can coach on behavior rather than judge only on outcomes that arrive weeks later.

A practical example

Example: a manager reviews a rep's week and sees 40 calls, 60 emails and 6 demos logged, with most demos clustered on accounts that later stalled, prompting a conversation about early qualification.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm which channels capture automatically (email, calendar, phone) and which require manual logging.
  • Check that activities roll up to deal and account level, not just contact level.
  • Verify you can set activity targets per rep and report progress without custom reports.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Activity volume is an input, not a result; tracking more actions can incentivize busywork unless you pair counts with stage progression and quality reviews.
