Reflection Loop

A reflection loop is a step where the agent reviews its own draft against given criteria—tone, clarity, completeness—and revises it before finalizing, all within one task.

The model critiques its output and produces a better second version without a human reading every draft. It is self-critique, not checking against external facts.

A practical example

Example: an agent drafting a renewal email writes a first version, then critiques it—"too pushy, missing the usage stat"—and rewrites it addressing both points before the draft reaches the rep for approval.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask what criteria the agent critiques against and whether you can define or edit those criteria yourself.
  • Check how many revision passes run per task, since each pass adds cost and latency.
  • Confirm you can see both the original and revised drafts, or at least the critique notes, for auditing.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Self-review catches internal flaws like tone and structure, but the model can still be confidently wrong about facts it never verified.
