Logging

Logging policy covers the raw record your platform keeps about each automation run: what is captured, the retention window, whether personal data appears in logs, who can access them, and whether they export to external observability tools.

It differs from execution traces, which are selected per-record debugging views; logging is the complete, governed record.

A practical example

Example: a platform that retains run logs for 30 days with full field values may expose customer emails to anyone with log access — a problem for teams with data retention obligations.

What to evaluate before investing

  • What is the default retention period, and is it configurable per workspace?
  • Can log fields be masked so personal data never enters the raw record?
  • Do logs export to external observability tools, and is export access controlled separately?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Long retention helps debugging but extends the window where personal data sits in logs; retention and masking choices are compliance decisions, not just technical ones.
