System Health Checks

System health checks are scheduled, proactive tests that confirm connected systems and integrations are functioning: credentials still valid, endpoints responding, required fields present, and data flowing within expected volumes.

Unlike alerting on failures after they happen, health checks aim to catch degradation, like an expiring token or a slowed API, before it breaks a workflow.

A practical example

Example: a nightly health check pings the CRM connection, verifies the custom object still exists, and compares today's synced record count against the trailing weekly average, flagging a sync that dropped sharply.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask which connection types the platform can test natively and whether custom endpoints are supported.
  • Check whether volume and latency baselines are configurable, not just binary up/down status.
  • Confirm failed checks can trigger a workflow, such as notifying an owner or pausing dependent automations.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Tradeoff: frequent checks consume API quota on the systems being tested, which can hit rate limits on constrained integrations.
