Data Privacy

Data privacy covers the lawful handling of personal data as it moves between marketing and sales systems: collecting valid consent, honoring deletion and access requests, limiting retention, and managing cross-border transfers.

It governs obligations about personal data, separate from technical access protection.

A practical example

Example: a lead opts out in the MAP, but the opt-out never syncs to the sales engagement tool, which keeps emailing them.

Mapping where personal data flows, and which system holds consent status, prevents that gap.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask vendors where personal data is stored and processed, including sub-processors and data residency options.
  • Check whether consent and preference status can sync across connected systems, and how conflicts are resolved.
  • Review how the platform supports deletion and access requests across every integrated system, not just its own database.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Privacy compliance is shared between vendor and buyer; a platform can provide controls, but lawful basis, retention policy and consent records remain your responsibility to define and maintain.
