Audience Intent

Audience intent is the inferred readiness of a defined audience segment to buy, based on behavioral and contextual signals rather than search queries.

Sources include content consumption patterns, event engagement, product usage, and third-party intent data providers that monitor topic research across the web.

Unlike search intent, which explains a single query, audience intent scores a group's position in the buying journey over time.

A practical example

Example: a segment of operations managers at mid-market firms repeatedly opening pricing-page emails and attending webinars on workflow automation would score higher on buying readiness than a segment only reading beginner guides.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask which first-party and third-party signals feed the intent score and how each is weighted.
  • Verify scores decay over time and refresh automatically, since stale intent misleads nurture sequences.
  • Confirm you can test the model against your own closed-won history before routing budget by score.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Intent scores infer motivation from behavior and can misread curiosity, competitor research, or job changes as buying readiness, so use them to prioritize outreach rather than to automate decisions without human review.
