Campaign Operations Ownership

Campaign Operations Ownership assigns a named person responsible for each campaign's operational execution: build, quality assurance, launch, monitoring, and fixes.

It is deliberately distinct from the marketing owner of strategy and messaging—one person decides what the campaign says and targets; another ensures it actually works.

When the two roles are conflated, broken tracking or a failed form can sit unaddressed for days because the strategist is not watching infrastructure.

Explicit ops ownership makes incident response actionable: there is always someone to page.

A practical example

Example: a product launch campaign has a strategy owner in product marketing and an ops owner in marketing operations.

When the registration form breaks two hours after launch, the ops owner is paged, fixes the field mapping, and documents the incident—while the strategist continues media outreach uninterrupted.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether the tool supports assigning a separate operational owner per campaign, distinct from the campaign creator.
  • Check if launch checklists and QA sign-offs can be attached to a campaign and attributed to a named person.
  • Test incident workflows: can a broken-campaign alert route directly to the ops owner with the campaign context attached?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Splitting strategy and ops ownership adds a handoff; small teams may find a single accountable owner with a documented QA checklist more practical.
