Form UTM Contract

A form UTM contract is the codified standard every form must follow for source capture: required hidden fields, allowed parameter values, and how referrer data maps into the record.

Where a CTA UTM contract governs link parameters, this governs the form side—the point where source data most often gets mangled.

A practical example

Label: illustrative scenario. The contract requires every form to carry hidden fields for source, medium, campaign, and page URL, with a controlled vocabulary.

A partner-referral form missing the campaign field fails pre-launch review until the builder adds it.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether form builders can enforce required hidden fields or flag forms missing them.
  • Check how direct or referrer-less traffic is recorded when parameters are absent.
  • Verify there is a controlled value list and a process for approving new values.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Hidden fields depend on the landing page correctly passing parameters; a broken link or redirect upstream still corrupts the data. The contract needs companion checks on the pages that feed the forms.
