Contact Enrichment

Contact enrichment is the automated appending of data to CRM records from external sources: verified emails and phone numbers, job titles, company size, industry, funding and technology stack.

Enrichment can run on entry, when a lead is created, or in bulk over an existing database.

Its value depends on source coverage and freshness for your specific market; a provider strong on US tech companies may be weak on European manufacturing.

It differs from intent data, which signals buying interest rather than describing attributes.

A practical example

Example: a form captures only name and email; enrichment fills in the contact's title, the company's headcount and industry, and routes the lead to the manufacturing sales team instead of a generic queue.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask what share of your target market the provider's database covers, and request a sample match rate against a slice of your own CRM.
  • Verify how field conflicts are handled: whether enrichment overwrites values your reps entered, fills only empty fields, or is configurable per field.
  • Check data provenance and compliance posture, including how records are sourced and how opt-outs or regional rules are handled.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Enriched data decays: titles and company sizes go stale within months, so plan periodic re-enrichment and treat appended fields as starting points, not verified truth.
