Customer Success Platform

A customer success platform (CSP) is software that helps post-sale teams manage customer health, adoption and renewals.

Typical capabilities include customer health scoring, product usage ingestion, lifecycle playbooks, renewal management and QBR (quarterly business review) preparation.

It complements rather than replaces a CRM: the CRM holds the account record, while the CSP layers usage and health context on top of it.

A practical example

Example: a customer success team uses a CSP to view each account's health score alongside CRM data, then runs an onboarding playbook with automated check-in tasks for the first 90 days.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask how the platform syncs with your CRM — direction, frequency and which fields are authoritative on each side.
  • Verify whether usage data ingestion supports your product's stack, or requires building and maintaining connectors yourself.
  • Check whether health scoring is configurable with your own weighting, and whether the logic is transparent to your team.

Limitations and tradeoffs

A CSP adds value only when usage data is reliable and teams actually work from it; buying the platform before defining health criteria and playbooks often produces expensive dashboards nobody uses.
