Lead Response Time

Lead response time measures the elapsed time from a lead arriving to the response your team has defined, such as a first human contact attempt.

State whether automated acknowledgments count and whether the clock uses business hours or elapsed hours. Compare the median with slower-response percentiles and unanswered leads; a single average or median can hide important delays.

A practical example

Example: a team measures median first-touch time per rep and per lead source, discovering that web demo requests sit unanswered far longer than chat leads.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm the tool timestamps both lead arrival and first outbound activity, not just CRM edits.
  • Check whether it reports median and percentile distributions, not only averages.
  • Verify you can segment response time by source, rep, and time of day to find real bottlenecks.

Limitations and tradeoffs

A fast first touch is easy to game with templated messages; measure whether the contact attempt is substantive, not just logged.
