Opportunity Inspection

Opportunity Inspection is the per-deal diagnostic: a specific checklist a manager runs on an individual opportunity — does a dated next step exist, is the buying committee engaged, is the amount credible, does stage evidence hold up.

It differs from pipeline inspection (portfolio health) and deal review (the meeting cadence); here the unit is one deal and the output is a pass-or-flag judgment.

A practical example

Example: before a forecast call, a manager runs inspection on a stage-4 deal and finds no committee contact in the last 30 days and no next step, so the deal is flagged down a stage rather than argued about.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the tool automatically surface missing next steps, stale activity, and single-threaded contacts per deal?
  • Does it let you define your own inspection criteria, or only fixed health checks?
  • Can flagged deals be filtered into a review list without manual export?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Automated checks only verify what the CRM records; if reps log thinly, inspection flags reflect data hygiene as much as deal quality, so criteria must account for logging behavior.
