Quota Attainment

Quota attainment is the percentage of a rep's assigned revenue target achieved in a period, calculated as closed-won revenue divided by quota.

It sounds simple, but accuracy depends on matching the right quota to the right rep for the right period, including mid-year territory changes, splits on team deals, and whether new-logo and expansion revenue count differently.

A practical example

Example: a rep closes 900,000 against a 1,000,000 annual quota, but 200,000 came from a shared account owned 50/50 with a teammate.

A correct attainment calculation credits 800,000, putting the rep at 80 percent rather than the misleading 90 percent.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Does the system support quota versions effective-dated, so mid-year changes don't rewrite history?
  • Can credit-sharing rules be configured for split and team deals?
  • Are attainment dashboards drillable from team rollups to individual closed deals?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Attainment is a lagging outcome metric; using it alone for coaching hides whether misses came from poor pipeline generation, weak conversion, or unrealistic quotas.
