Function-as-a-Service (FaaS)

Function-as-a-Service is the specific unit of serverless infrastructure: a single-purpose hosted function triggered by events, billed per invocation, and subject to execution time limits and statelessness.

Where serverless architecture is the infrastructure pattern, FaaS is the concrete place your custom lead-routing or enrichment code lives. Its constraints shape what logic you can commit to it.

A practical example

Example: a function that scores an inbound lead and appends the score to the CRM record fits FaaS well; a function that must hold session state across many steps or run for minutes does not.

What to evaluate before investing

  • What is the maximum execution time per invocation, and what happens when it is exceeded?
  • How does the function receive state — must every invocation rebuild context from external stores?
  • What events can trigger the function, and can it be invoked from your MAP and CRM both?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Statelessness forces every invocation to fetch its own context, adding latency and external calls; logic that needs shared state may outgrow the function model.
