Identity Resolution

Identity resolution is the process of linking scattered signals — form fills, email opens, CRM records, website visits from different devices — to a single person or account.

It typically combines deterministic matching (exact identifiers like email) with probabilistic matching (inferring the same person from patterns). In revenue intelligence, its quality directly determines whether activity timelines and account-level rollups are trustworthy.

A practical example

Example: a prospect fills a form with a work email on Monday, browses pricing from a personal device on Wednesday and replies to a sales email on Friday.

Identity resolution ties all three events to one contact record, so the rep sees one journey instead of three anonymous fragments.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask for the vendor's match methodology split: what share of matches are deterministic versus probabilistic?
  • Request a sample match report on your own data, including match rate and a confidence score per match.
  • Check whether resolved identities can be reviewed and corrected by humans, and whether corrections feed back into the model.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Probabilistic matching is inherently uncertain; high match rates can hide false merges that corrupt contact histories and skew reporting.
