Audience Signals

Audience Signals are the observable behaviors and attributes a team treats as gates for activating an audience segment.

The operational set usually combines engagement recency (last meaningful touch), content consumption patterns (topics and depth viewed), and firmographic fit (company size, industry, region matching your target profile).

Unlike Buyer Intent Signals, which come from third-party intent data about individuals or accounts, these signals come from your own channels and drive audience-level decisions: enter a nurture stream, exit to sales, or pause messaging.

A practical example

Example: a segment enters an ABM campaign when an account's contacts view two pricing pages within 14 days and the account matches your mid-market firmographic filter; it exits when no contact engages for 60 days.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the platform ingest recency rules on your own engagement events, not just email opens?
  • Does it support compound conditions, such as content topic plus firmographic fit, in one audience rule?
  • Can you audit when and why an account entered or exited an audience?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Signal thresholds are organization-specific; a recency window that works for one sales motion may starve another of volume, so treat published benchmarks as starting points, not rules.
