Glossary / Evaluation and implementation guide

Bottom of Funnel (BOFU)

Bottom of Funnel (BOFU) is the final stage of the marketing funnel, where prospects have already identified a problem, compared alternatives, and are evaluating specific vendors.

The goal shifts from education to removing purchase friction: pricing clarity, proof of fit, security answers, and implementation expectations. BOFU signals include demo requests, pricing-page visits, and repeated comparison searches.

Content and automation at this stage should be judged by how well it shortens the decision, not by reach or engagement volume.

A practical example

Example: a prospect who has viewed your pricing page twice and downloaded a security checklist receives a workflow inviting them to book a scoped demo with a solutions engineer, while a top-funnel visitor would still get an introductory guide.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Does the platform trigger BOFU workflows from high-intent behaviors like pricing-page visits, not just form fills?
  • Can sales and marketing share one timeline so BOFU handoffs include full context?
  • Can you test different BOFU offers, such as demo versus trial, and measure downstream outcomes?

Limitations and tradeoffs

BOFU labeling depends on your own scoring model; a stage name alone does not make content decision-ready, and misclassified high-intent leads can be pushed to sales too early.
