CTA Scoring Model

A CTA scoring model assigns lead score weight to clicks and conversions on each CTA type, based on its intent tier.

A demo-request click should not contribute the same points as a newsletter click, yet without per-CTA weights all clicks count equally and high-intent engagement gets diluted in the total score.

The model sits alongside on-page behavior scoring, which weights actions taken on landing pages rather than the CTA interaction itself.

A practical example

Example: a scoring sheet grants a demo CTA conversion ten points, a webinar registration four points, and a blog subscription one point, with decay applied if no further engagement follows.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm each live CTA type maps to an explicit weight, with no default catch-all value absorbing unmapped CTAs.
  • Check that weights are consistent with your intent tiers, so a tier-one CTA never scores below a tier-two CTA.
  • Verify score changes from CTA events are visible in the CRM timeline, so sales can see why a lead's score moved.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Weights encode assumptions about intent, not proof of it; if the weights are wrong, scores mislead routing decisions, so review them against actual conversion outcomes periodically.
