Demand Capture Click Path

Demand Capture Click Path is the audit of the immediate hop after someone clicks a capture asset: whether UTM parameters carry through, how many redirects intervene, and whether the landing step matches the promise of the clicked message.

It is narrower than full journey analysis because it stops at the first destination.

Broken hops are a fixable leak: the buyer was high-intent, and the click itself worked, but the destination lost the context or the offer.

A practical example

A buyer clicks a third-party review listing offering a free trial. Two redirects later, the landing page shows a generic homepage, the trial offer is absent, and the UTM parameters are gone.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Click every live capture asset from outside your network and log the full redirect chain, parameters at each hop, and final URL.
  • Compare the headline and offer on the destination page against the copy of the clicked asset to check message match.
  • Ask destination-page owners what happens when parameters are missing, and whether the page degrades gracefully or silently drops attribution.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Redirect chains sometimes exist for tracking reasons you do not control, such as affiliate or publisher redirects, so not every hop can be removed.
