Form Click Path

The form click path describes the in-form journey: everything between a user clicking into a form and submitting it.

Unlike the CTA click path, which covers the hop to the destination, this focuses on field friction, validation errors, iframe loading delays, and partial abandonment before submit—losses standard funnel reports rarely show.

A practical example

Label: illustrative scenario. Analytics on a demo request form show many users reach the phone number field, trigger a validation error twice, and leave.

The path reveals the error fires on blur with an unclear message, not at submit.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether the platform tracks field-level events like focus, blur, and error triggers.
  • Check if iframe-embedded forms report events to your analytics tool reliably.
  • Verify you can segment the path by device and traffic source to locate friction.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Field-level tracking can require extra scripting or consent handling, and heavy event capture may affect page performance or privacy compliance if not configured carefully.
