Demand Capture Attribution Gap

Demand Capture Attribution Gap is the diagnostic frame for why a high-intent conversion happens but never connects to its source in the automation or CRM record.

Unlike broad attribution modeling, it isolates the capture layer: redirects that strip parameters, form-to-CRM field mappings that drop values, and integrations that write the conversion without the source fields.

The conversion exists; the record simply arrives disconnected, so spend on that asset looks unattributed.

A practical example

A comparison-page demo request converts, but the CRM record shows no source. Tracing the path reveals the booking tool sits on a redirect that strips UTM parameters before the form loads.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Map every hop from click to CRM record and confirm which fields each integration writes, asking vendors for their field-mapping documentation.
  • Submit test conversions through each capture asset and compare the source fields that arrive against the parameters sent on the click.
  • Check whether redirects on your capture destinations preserve query strings, and who controls those redirects.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Fixing the gap restores data linkage but does not by itself prove which channel caused the conversion; attribution modeling remains a separate decision.
