Demand Capture Attribution

Demand Capture Attribution is the practice of assigning pipeline credit to high-intent capture assets—demo requests, pricing-page conversions, contact forms—when earlier nurture touches also influenced the buyer.

Platform reporting often defaults to last-touch, which hands nearly all credit to the capture asset and erases the nurture that created the intent.

Teams need a deliberate position on this split before judging capture spend, because the default view flatters capture and starves nurture programs.

A practical example

A buyer attends two webinars, reads three emails, then requests a demo. Last-touch reporting shows the demo form driving the pipeline; a multi-touch view shows the webinars contributing.

The team documents both views before its budget review.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask which attribution model the reporting defaults to for capture conversions and whether it is configurable.
  • Confirm prior touches remain visible in reports rather than being overwritten by the capture event.
  • Check whether the team can report capture credit alongside nurture credit in one view for budget discussions.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Multi-touch views spread credit thinly and can understate capture's closing role, so neither model alone settles the budget argument.
