Form Conversion Signal

A form conversion signal is the agreed standard that qualifies a submission as a countable conversion.

Unlike a pre-launch QA gate, it applies after submission: spam filtering, deduplication rules, and test-data exclusion determine whether the record enters conversion reporting and attribution.

A practical example

Label: illustrative scenario. A form receives 400 submissions in a month.

Applying the validity signal removes bot patterns, two duplicate entries from one user, and five QA test submissions, leaving a smaller countable set that feeds reporting.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask which spam defenses run before a submission is marked valid, and whether they are configurable.
  • Check how duplicates are detected—email, device, or fuzzy matching—and whether merging is reversible.
  • Verify test and internal submissions can be flagged and excluded without deleting data.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Aggressive filtering can discard legitimate leads, especially from unusual domains or shared devices. The signal needs periodic review so validity rules match real traffic patterns.
