Landing Page Optimization

Landing page optimization (LPO) is the ongoing discipline of improving a page's ability to convert by changing and testing elements such as headlines, forms, layout, calls to action, and page load speed.

It relies on a cycle of hypothesis, variation, measurement, and decision, often using A/B testing, where traffic is split between versions, or multivariate testing, which tests combinations of changes at once.

For buyers, the key distinction is between page builders that merely allow edits and platforms that support structured experimentation with statistical readouts and version control.

A practical example

Example: a team hypothesizes that a shorter form will lift demo requests.

They run an A/B test with the original six-field form against a three-field version, decide after reaching their planned sample size, and keep the winner.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm native A/B testing with audience splitting and clear result reporting.
  • Check whether tests can target specific segments, such as returning visitors or a campaign source.
  • Verify that test variations preserve tracking parameters and lead routing rules.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Tradeoff: testing requires meaningful traffic to reach reliable conclusions; low-volume pages may take months per test, tempting teams to stop early and act on noise.
