Landing Page Conversion Path

A landing page conversion path is the sequence of steps a visitor travels from first arrival to a recorded conversion, such as submitting a form, booking a call, or starting a trial.

It typically includes the traffic source, the landing page itself, any intermediate steps like a thank-you page or email confirmation, and the final conversion event.

Mapping the path matters because automation platforms and analytics tools must track each step consistently; a broken or undefined step creates gaps in attribution and lead routing.

A practical example

Example: a paid search ad leads to a webinar registration page, which triggers a confirmation email, and the registrant later books a demo. Each of those four touchpoints is part of one conversion path.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm the platform can track multi-step paths, not just the final form submission.
  • Verify that UTM parameters and source data survive redirects between steps.
  • Test whether leads are routed to the right owner based on path data, such as campaign or offer type.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Tradeoff: longer paths give richer context but add more failure points, since a single broken step can silently drop leads.
