Landing Page Variant Testing

Landing page variant testing compares complete page versions against each other, where each variant may differ in several elements at once, such as a full redesign versus the current page.

It is narrower than a page experimentation program: the goal is picking a winner between two or more whole pages, not building a testing practice.

A practical example

Example: a team builds a shortened demo-request page as a challenger against the existing long-form page, splits inbound traffic evenly, and compares form completion rates over a fixed period.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether variants can be served by URL split, redirect or in-page swap, and what each approach means for SEO and analytics.
  • Ask whether the tool reports per-variant conversion rates with significance testing.
  • Confirm visitor counts stay consistent across variants so the comparison is fair.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Because whole-page variants differ in many elements, a winning result does not reveal which change caused the improvement; use it to choose a page, not to learn element-level causes.
