Landing Page Performance

Landing page performance has two connected dimensions: technical performance, meaning how quickly and reliably the page loads, and outcome performance, meaning how effectively it produces conversions.

Technical measures include load time, Core Web Vitals (Google's standardized metrics for loading, interactivity, and visual stability), and uptime.

Outcome measures include conversion rate, cost per conversion, and revenue influenced, where influenced revenue is credit assigned by attribution models rather than causal proof.

The two dimensions interact: slow pages tend to lose visitors before content renders, which suppresses conversion regardless of copy quality. Buyers should evaluate whether a platform reports both dimensions or forces separate tools.

A practical example

Example: a landing page converts at a steady rate on desktop but poorly on mobile.

A performance review shows heavy images delaying render on mobile connections, pointing to a technical fix rather than a copy rewrite.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether the platform reports Core Web Vitals or integrates with tools that do.
  • Check how page weight, scripts, and third-party tags affect load time on the builder.
  • Confirm conversion and technical metrics can be viewed together per page and per campaign.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Tradeoff: rich media and tracking scripts often improve engagement data but degrade load speed, forcing an explicit balance rather than a single optimum.
