Lead Qualification

Lead qualification is the process of deciding which contacts deserve sales attention, using agreed criteria about fit and intent.

Teams often structure it with frameworks such as BANT (Budget, Authority, Need, Timeline) or MEDDIC (Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Identify pain, Champion).

Automation supports qualification by gathering data and routing leads, but the judgment call stays human.

A practical example

Example: a form asks company size and use case, enrichment fills in industry and headcount, and the platform routes contacts that meet the fit threshold to booking, while the rest enter nurture.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Verify the platform can enrich inbound leads from third-party firmographic sources, or confirm what data you must supply yourself.
  • Check whether qualification questions can differ by form, channel, or campaign without duplicating entire workflows.
  • Ask how fast leads route to sales after submission, since qualification value decays quickly in competitive deals.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Over-strict qualification filters can silently discard good-fit buyers who answer forms casually; review disqualification rules against actual closed customers periodically.
