Lead Quality

Lead quality is the degree to which incoming leads match your ideal customer profile (firmographic fit such as industry, size, and role) and show buying intent (behavioral signals like pricing-page visits or demo requests).

It is typically operationalized through lead scoring, but the underlying definition must be agreed between marketing and sales before any model is built.

A practical example

Example: a team defines a high-quality lead as a manager-plus role at companies over 200 employees who viewed pricing and attended a webinar; leads meeting both criteria route directly to sales.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the platform combine firmographic data from enrichment with behavioral events in one score?
  • Does it support separate fit and intent dimensions so you can see why a lead scored as it did?
  • Can sales give feedback on lead disposition that flows back to recalibrate the model?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Scores are only as good as their inputs; stale contact data and self-reported fields inflate quality, and a model tuned once will drift as your market and product change, so schedule periodic recalibration.
