Account Prioritization

Account prioritization is the method for ranking which accounts receive sales and marketing attention first, based on fit (how closely an account matches your ideal customer profile), intent or engagement signals, and timing.

It differs from lead scoring, which operates at the contact level; prioritization allocates finite rep capacity across accounts. A usable model is transparent enough that reps can see why an account ranks where it does.

A practical example

Example: a team tiers accounts A/B/C by firmographic fit, then bumps accounts up a tier for two weeks when a buying-committee contact opens pricing pages or requests a demo.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether scoring rules are configurable and visible to reps, not a black-box rank.
  • Confirm engagement signals from marketing tools can feed the account score without manual imports.
  • Verify tier changes are logged with timestamps so you can audit why coverage shifted.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Scores decay quickly; a prioritization model without a refresh cadence and a way to demote stale accounts pushes reps toward outdated targets.
