Contact Data Quality Gate

A Contact Data Quality Gate is a per-record pass/fail checkpoint that blocks a contact from enrolling in a specific campaign or automation until required fields are present — for example, role, industry, or consent status.

Unlike acceptance criteria, which apply once at creation, gates are evaluated at each enrollment point and can differ per automation: a webinar sequence may require job title, while a renewal campaign requires customer status.

Failure handling is part of the design: skip, hold, or route to a data-repair flow.

A practical example

Example: an onboarding email sequence requires industry and company size. Contacts missing either field are held at the gate and added to an enrichment task list rather than receiving a generic first email.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether gates can be configured per automation, with different required fields per campaign.
  • Verify failure behavior is selectable — hold, skip, or repair queue — rather than a single hardcoded outcome.
  • Check whether gate failures are reported so you can see which fields block the most contacts.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Every required field adds friction and hold volume; requiring too much per campaign stalls enrollment, so gate fields should match what each automation actually uses.
