Opportunity Data Quality Gate

An Opportunity Data Quality Gate is a per-deal pass/fail checkpoint: a deal must meet minimum field completeness before it counts in forecasts, routing, or reporting.

Unlike bulk pipeline cleansing, the gate runs continuously on each deal.

Teams decide which fields are gating — typically amount, close date, next step, and a qualifying contact — and what happens on failure: exclusion from forecast rollups, a warning, or blocked stage advancement.

A practical example

A team requires amount, close date, and a next step with a date before a deal enters the committed forecast category.

A deal missing the next step stays in pipeline but is flagged and excluded from the committed rollup until the rep completes it.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can gating fields and thresholds be configured per forecast category or pipeline, not just globally?
  • Does the gate report which deals failed, which field failed, and who owns the fix?
  • Can a deal be excluded from rollups without being blocked from advancing, and is that behavior configurable?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Gates that demand too many fields push reps toward placeholder data, so completeness rises while accuracy falls.
