A practical example
Label as example: an imported list contains 4,000 accounts; 900 lack an employee band and 300 have no hierarchy parent.
The gate holds those 1,200 in a review state while the remaining 2,800 flow into scoring and routing immediately.
What to evaluate before investing
- Ask whether the gate is configurable per workflow, so a lead-routing flow can demand fewer fields than an ABM play.
- Check what happens to failed accounts: a visible holding state with an owner, or silent exclusion from all automation.
- Verify the gate re-evaluates on enrichment, so accounts pass automatically once missing fields are filled.
Limitations and tradeoffs
Gates create a backlog: strict field requirements can hold large shares of imported data indefinitely if nobody owns the remediation work.
The tradeoff is cleaner automation downstream versus a manual queue that needs staffing and a defined aging policy.
