Intent Data

Intent data is behavioral signal suggesting an account is actively researching a topic, typically derived from content consumption across publisher networks (third-party intent), a vendor's own site and product activity (first-party intent), or review-site and community activity.

It indicates topical interest, not purchase commitment, and works best as a prioritization layer rather than a trigger by itself.

A practical example

Example: an account with no open opportunities shows a spike in consumption around a category keyword; the team adds it to a targeted outbound sequence referencing that topic.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask how signals are sourced and how fresh they are, including the model behind topic scoring.
  • Verify you can match intent accounts to your CRM accounts reliably, since fuzzy matching causes noise.
  • Check whether you can define your own topic set rather than accept only vendor-preset categories.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Intent data shows research activity, not intent to buy from you; treat it as a queueing signal and avoid attributing closed revenue to it directly.
