Sales Analytics

Sales Analytics is the practice of measuring pipeline and selling behavior — conversion rates by stage, deal velocity, win/loss patterns, rep performance — using data from your CRM and connected tools.

It differs from activity tracking by focusing on outcomes and trends rather than individual actions, and from forecasting by explaining what happened rather than predicting what will.

A practical example

Example: an analytics view shows that deals entering at a certain stage convert far less often than others, leading the team to redefine what qualifies for that stage rather than adding more leads.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether the tool computes stage conversion and cycle time natively or requires exported data.
  • Confirm you can segment analyses by source, segment, rep and timeframe without a data team.
  • Verify how the tool handles missing or stale stage data, since gaps distort every downstream metric.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Analytics describe correlations in your historical data; a pattern linking a behavior to wins does not prove the behavior caused them, so validate findings with controlled changes.
