Sales Coaching Signals

Sales Coaching Signals are specific behavioral and pipeline data points selected in advance to trigger manager review: stalled next steps, single-threaded deals, skipped discovery stages, or deals with shrinking engagement.

The point is curation — a small, defined set of signals that prompts a coaching conversation, not a wall of activity metrics.

A practical example

Label as example: a manager's Monday view flags three deals where the primary contact has gone quiet for two weeks while the close date stays unchanged, plus one opportunity where no discovery questions were logged before a proposal was sent.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask which signals the platform computes natively versus which require custom fields or manual logging to exist at all.
  • Check whether managers can tune signal thresholds per team, since an enterprise rep's 'stalled' differs from an SMB rep's.
  • Verify that signals link to the underlying evidence — call recordings, email threads, stage history — so coaching starts from facts.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Signal-based coaching can feel like surveillance if reps aren't told which behaviors are tracked and why.

The tradeoff: transparent, few signals build trust and change behavior; broad silent monitoring tends to produce gamed data instead of better deals.
