Sync Conflict Detection

Sync conflict detection is the mechanism that finds when two systems changed the same record differently — before any policy decides which value wins.

It works by comparing timestamps, version numbers, or checksums between the source and target.

Detection is the prerequisite to conflict resolution: without it, divergent MAP and CRM updates overwrite each other silently, and the losing value disappears with no record that a conflict ever existed.

A practical example

Example: sales edits a contact's phone in the CRM while a marketing form captures a new one; version comparison flags the record so the team applies the documented winner rule.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask how the platform detects conflicts: timestamps, versions, or checksums, and which fields are covered.
  • Verify conflicts are surfaced in a queue or report, not resolved invisibly by last-write-wins.
  • Test a deliberate two-sided edit in a sandbox and confirm the conflict is flagged.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Detection depends on both systems exposing reliable change metadata; if one side lacks versions or trustworthy timestamps, conflicts on those fields may go undetected despite the feature existing.
