Integration Lifecycle

The Integration Lifecycle describes the stages an integration passes through: design, build, testing, go-live, monitoring, change management and eventual retirement.

Unlike per-connector lifecycle views, it treats the integration as a managed asset with an end of life. Planning retirement matters because abandoned integrations keep running unmonitored and silently corrupt data.

A practical example

Label: hypothetical. A company replaces an event platform. Because no retirement stage was planned, the old integration keeps pushing stale attendee data into the CRM for months, polluting reports until someone investigates a mismatch.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Does each integration have a named owner for every lifecycle stage?
  • Is there a documented retirement process, including data cleanup and downstream notice?
  • Are monitoring and change-review procedures defined before go-live, not after?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Lifecycle discipline adds process overhead; for a handful of simple integrations, a lightweight version may be enough.
