JSON Schema Validation

JSON Schema Validation checks incoming JSON payloads against a formal schema that declares allowed fields, types and required properties. JSON Schema is a widely used specification for describing the structure of JSON documents.

Rejecting payloads that fail validation keeps malformed data out of downstream records, instead of cleaning it up after import.

A practical example

Label: hypothetical. A form tool sends webhooks to a marketing platform.

The receiver validates each payload against a schema requiring a valid email string and an ISO date for signup; payloads missing the date are rejected and logged rather than creating incomplete leads.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Does the integration layer support schema validation on inbound webhooks and API calls?
  • Can rejected payloads be logged and replayed after correction, or are they lost?
  • Who owns the schema, and how are schema changes communicated between teams?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Strict validation rejects edge cases that may be legitimate; tune required fields carefully to avoid discarding good data.
