Schema Validation

Schema validation is the quality step that checks each incoming record against defined structural rules before it is accepted, covering required fields, data types, allowed value ranges, and formats such as email or date patterns.

Invalid records are rejected, quarantined, or corrected instead of silently entering your systems.

A practical example

Example: a lead sync rule requires a valid email and a country code from a fixed list; records failing either check go to a quarantine queue for review rather than creating malformed CRM entries.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Test whether validation happens before or after the record enters the destination system.
  • Check what happens to rejected records: are they stored, retried, or dropped?
  • Confirm you can define custom rules per field, not only pick from preset validators.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Tradeoff: strict validation blocks fast-moving campaigns when sources send imperfect data, so teams need a clear process for reviewing quarantined records quickly.
