Campaign Lifecycle

Campaign lifecycle describes the phases every campaign passes through: brief and planning, build and testing, launch, monitoring and optimization, and finally wrap-up or archival.

Treating campaigns as lifecycle objects, rather than one-off sends, makes it easier to reuse structures, keep naming and tracking conventions consistent, and learn from what ran before.

A practical example

Example: a marketing team keeps a standard campaign template with a brief, asset checklist, test protocol, and post-mortem section, so every quarterly campaign starts from the same skeleton and archived campaigns remain searchable.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether campaigns support statuses like draft, testing, live, paused, and archived with permissions per status.
  • Verify you can clone a past campaign with its assets, audiences, and settings intact.
  • Test whether archived campaigns and their reporting remain accessible and searchable after completion.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Lifecycle discipline only pays off if enforced; without naming conventions and mandatory briefs, even a capable platform accumulates duplicate, orphaned campaigns that pollute reporting.
