Conversion Path SLA

A Conversion Path SLA assigns a time commitment to each step of a conversion path, not just the first sales contact.

Steps include instant form confirmation, entry into the first nurture message, delivery of promised content, and booking of a meeting. Each intermediate delay is a leak point: buyers stall or go cold while waiting.

The SLA makes every step's maximum wait explicit and assigns an owner to each.

A practical example

The path SLA requires confirmation email within five minutes, first nurture message within one day, and a booked meeting offer within three days of a demo request; data shows most drop-off happens between days two and three.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask vendors whether their automation can trigger and timestamp each path step so per-step wait times are measurable.
  • Confirm the platform alerts owners when a step exceeds its committed time.
  • Check that step SLAs can differ by conversion type, since a pricing request and a newsletter signup need different speeds.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Compressing every step to near-instant speed can push generic, poorly timed messages; speed should be balanced against message relevance at each step.
