CTA Source Ledger

A CTA Source Ledger is a maintained inventory of every call-to-action instance in production: its destination URL, tracking parameters, owning team, linked campaign, and lifecycle status such as live, paused, or retired.

It functions as the authoritative registry that link audits and dead-link sweeps query.

A practical example

Example: before a quarterly audit, RevOps exports the ledger, tests each live CTA destination, and flags three buttons still pointing to an expired webinar registration page owned by a team member who left last year.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the tool export every live CTA with destination, UTM values, owner, and last-modified date in one query?
  • Does it flag CTAs whose destination returns an error or redirects off the recorded URL?
  • Can you filter the inventory by campaign so retired campaigns reveal their orphaned CTAs?

Limitations and tradeoffs

A ledger is only as current as its update discipline; CTAs created ad hoc in page builders or email tools may never enter the inventory unless creation is routed through a governed process.
