Landing Page Attribution Gap

A landing page attribution gap is the loss of traffic source data between a visitor's arrival on a landing page and the conversion record in your automation platform or CRM.

Campaign attribution covers models and credit assignment broadly; this isolates the page layer.

Common causes include cross-domain tracking loss when a form is hosted elsewhere, embedded form iframes stripping referrer data, and JavaScript conflicts that prevent source parameters from being captured.

Diagnosing the layer matters because the fix differs: page fix, connector fix, or CRM field mapping fix.

A practical example

Label: a gated report page converts well, but 40 percent of its CRM records show no source.

Ops tests the embedded form in isolation and finds the iframe drops the referring parameters, so the gap is a page-layer issue, not a CRM mapping one.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Ask whether your form tool captures source parameters itself or relies on page-level scripts that iframes can block.
  • Confirm the connector between form and CRM maps source fields explicitly, with a fallback for missing values.
  • Check whether cross-domain pages use linker parameters or first-party cookies to carry source across the boundary.

Limitations and tradeoffs

Some gaps cannot be fully closed, such as visitors using privacy tools that block tracking scripts; plan for a documented unknown-source bucket rather than assuming complete coverage.
