Account Signal Buying Stage

Account Signal Buying Stage is the practice of inferring where an account sits in its buying journey — research, evaluation, or decision — from combinations of signals, rather than from any single score.

The mapping logic matters because stage determines play selection: research-stage accounts get nurture content, evaluation-stage accounts get comparison assets and AE outreach, decision-stage accounts get proposals and executive touch.

Typical inputs include intent topic breadth, engagement recency across contacts, and form or pricing-page activity.

A practical example

Example: an account showing broad topic intent plus one webinar attendee maps to research; adding a pricing-page visit and a second engaged contact moves it to evaluation, switching the play from nurture to AE outreach.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can stage rules combine multiple signal types, or only threshold one score?
  • Are stage definitions editable per segment rather than fixed by the vendor?
  • Can stage changes automatically switch campaign tracks or play assignments?

Limitations and tradeoffs

Stage inference is probabilistic, not observed fact; treat mapped stages as a play-selection input and validate the mapping against real deal outcomes over time.
