Account Status Map

An Account Status Map is the defined set of account-level states your systems recognize — for example target, engaged, customer, churned, and suppressed — together with the transitions permitted between them.

It is the state model itself, not the rules that move accounts through it. Each state should carry operational consequences: suppressed accounts exit campaigns, customer accounts route to CS, churned accounts re-enter win-back plays.

A practical example

Example: a MAP marks an account customer while the CRM still shows engaged, so the ABM team keeps spending on an active customer.

A written status map with a single transition authority would surface the mismatch at the next sync audit.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the platform enforce custom account states, or only fixed lifecycle stages?
  • Does it log who changed a state and when, with rollback or audit export?
  • Can state changes trigger or block campaign membership and routing automatically?

Limitations and tradeoffs

State labels are organization-specific; no industry standard exists, so expect mapping work during implementation and keep the map documented outside the tool.
