Follow-Up Cadence

A follow-up cadence is a predefined sequence of touches, emails, calls, LinkedIn steps, spread over set days, designed for a segment such as new inbound leads or stalled opportunities.

Unlike reactive follow-up automation, a cadence is proactive and scheduled: it defines the rhythm in advance, and reps or the platform execute it step by step.

A practical example

Example: a five-step cadence for demo no-shows might be a same-day recap email, a call on day two, a LinkedIn message on day four, a case-study email on day seven, and a breakup email on day ten.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Check whether cadences support mixed channels and per-step delays, not just daily email drips.
  • Verify reps can skip or reorder steps without breaking the sequence's reporting.
  • Confirm you can build separate cadences per segment and measure step-level engagement.

Limitations and tradeoffs

A cadence tuned for one segment often underperforms on another; expect to iterate timing and channel mix per audience.
