Sales Cadence

A Sales Cadence is a predefined sequence of outreach steps — calls, emails, social touches, waits — executed over a set number of days for a segment of prospects.

It standardizes how reps pursue a lead so that persistence and timing do not depend on individual memory, and it is the operating unit of most sales engagement tools.

A practical example

Example: a cadence for inbound trial signups runs ten business days: day one a call plus email, day three a LinkedIn touch, day five a second call, then spaced follow-ups ending with a breakup email.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Confirm you can build multi-channel steps with conditional exits when a prospect replies or books a meeting.
  • Check how the tool prevents cadence collisions when a contact matches two active sequences.
  • Verify per-step analytics so you can see where prospects drop out, not just overall completion.

Limitations and tradeoffs

A cadence optimized for volume can damage reply rates and sender reputation; more touches is not inherently better, and cadence design needs testing rather than a default template.
